Thanks to everyone for their kind remarks about www.skituscany.com

I see that the snow has come early to Abetone and wish everyone a great season  :)

As for me, I will have to wait until January before I can enjoy ...  :'(

If someone manages to get a photo of the CT lift prices for 2008/9 and can email it to me info@skituscany.com I would really appreciate this!

THANKS!

You still need to carry snow chains though, even if you never need to use them. You can hire them from the rental company, but we recommend buying them and keeping them at your house as you have one.
We have known white-outs even in April and have regretted not fitting chains when the car slid back down the road and nearly went over the edge.
We weren't in it at the time ... I was trying to fit the chains and slammed the boot down and off it went down the road  :o

This thread has developed a long way from the initial discussion about the price of lift tickets at Abetone, but I would like to give a foreigner's viewpoint:

PRICE
The lift operators have made a HUGE investment in new lift systems in recent years which has transformed Abetone into a world-class resort.
Of course they have to make difficult decisions on price. They are in business and want to recover their investment.
I translate the Multipass prices into English on my site here: http://www.skituscany.com/pdf/multipass20089.pdf and it appears to me that prices are the same as last year.

Let's all be thankful for that!

Also, compared with most other resorts elsewhere in Europe and North America that I have experienced, the price combination of ticket, equipment rental and tuition is exceptionally good at Abetone. I would say that I have never found it to be cheaper anywhere else.

And the facilities are better than many others, especially for beginners. See here: http://www.skituscany.com/beginners.html and for intermediates, see here: http://www.skituscany.com/intermediates.html

FUTURE GROWTH
Personally I appreciate everything that the operators and other businesses are doing to encourage the revival of Abetone as a resort.
I am doing what I can to stimulate foreign interest in Abetone as I think that what Abetone needs most are weekday visitors.
I think that it is difficult (impossible?) for a resort to survive on weekend trade alone - who can make a good living that way? Operators, rental shops, teachers, restaurants, shops, bars? I think not.
With the new lifts, the groundwork has been done and the resort is great, but now Abetone needs to attract more tourists.

WEB SITE
You are absolutely right when you say that a good web-site is VERY important.
Until you get together to make a really good site, please feel free to use www.skituscany.com to encourage more visitors to come to Abetone.

This site already achieves a #1 ranking on most search engines with typical keywords like SKI, TUSCANY, ABETONE etc.
I have tried to make a good promotion for Abetone, bringing together information, web-cams, weather, piste maps etc. etc.
... but with help from more people on the forum I am prepared to do more :)

This is not for my profit - I already have a good job - rather it is for the sake of Abetone and the sport of skiing, both of which I love.
I do have a house which I sometimes rent out but this does not mean everyone who visits the site will stay there. It is not suitable for everyone.
I would be happy to promote all Abetone businesses - including other accommodation too - on the site. Please help me to help you!

Good luck to everyone for the 2008/9 season!  ;)

Great to hear from you Filippo  :)

We won't be out until January  :( so if you'd like to discuss any possibilities right now then please email me: info@skituscany.com

None of the Abetone ski schools have made English pages themselves yet, so as you seem to understand English maybe you should as this will help to attract foreign customers.

I did this unofficial translation for Scuola Sci Colò here: http://www.skituscany.com/colo/index.html for free as an example.

Hope to hear from you again!

Steve

P.S. Do you offer tandem paragliding all year round? This may be another interesting activity for people visiting Tuscany which I could feature on the site with photos etc.

I Know that another good ski rental and repair shop is sportprofessional.it in Val di Luce.

Following your recommendation, I have added sportprofessional.it to my list here: http://www.skituscany.com/equipmenthire.html  :)

I hope we will meet in Abetone, a really great place to ski; keep on touch with the friends on the Forum and see you later on the slopes!

Yeah right! I can't wait until the season starts! I see that some early snow is due later this week  :D

P.S. What would be very helpful to me is if you or anyone else can post a link or email to info@skituscany.com with the 2008/2009 prices for the C.T. passes. In all the years I have been operating www.skituscany.com, I have never managed to find these prices online. Multipass, TopSki, SAF, Pulicchio, Val di Luce - all of these I can find, but never C.T.  :(

Also, if any other businesses in the Abetone area would like to be mentioned on www.skituscany.com, please send an email to info@skituscany.com

This service is free and I will translate from Italian to English :D

in english this time. i only have 1 year at night school to learn itialiano....so not so good. i think you all said maybe some snow and good weather but for good skiing go to alps. I am coming with my wife and 5 year old boy and would like to learn skiing for 3-4 days.

we have just bought an old house in Baccana, Lunigiana(that needs lots of work) but thought there would be better chance of snow in Abetone than Prato Spilla or Cereto Laghi.

we are looking for somewhere self-catering to stay around Bagni di Lucca....1 or 2 bedrooms.....old/traditional...any suggestions??

oh..... and also you liked the green of ireland and the guinness!!!!!

many thanks, Mark.

Hello there!

For more information about Abetone in English please take a look at our web-site www.skituscany.com or put 'ski' and 'tuscany' into any major search engine to find us.

We LOVE Abetone and have made it our mission to try to encourage more people from other countries to visit because of the wonderful opportunities it offers. Especially for beginners  :)

We honestly believe that Abetone is the best place in the world to learn to ski - see why here: http://www.skituscany.com/beginners.html

We have a house in Convalle, Pescaglia which we do rent out sometimes if you are interested. It's about 30 miles / 1 hour to drive to Abetone. Also less than 1 hour from Pisa Airport.

We hope that you and your family will learn to love Abetone as much as we do  :)

Steve.

P.S. Would the forum organisers like to start a section for foreigners in English?

Sai dove posso trovare queste?

Molte grazie a tutti!

SkiTuscany

:) Preferirei essere sciare in Toscana! :)

Thank you Maerco -

I have added your webcam and the aerial view of the pistes to the www.SkiTuscany.com webcam carousel.

I can find sites with the lift pass prices for SAF, Pulicchio, TopSki, ValDiLuce and MultiPass and have translated all of these into English ... but I have never managed to find a site with prices for "Slittovia Abetone".

Do you know where I can find these? I want to give people the whole picture.

Also, does Tomassi of Scuola di Sci Abetone read this forum?

Do you have a photo of all the Ski Instructors and any more information?

I want to promote your Ski School more. Do you have an email address?

Many thanks everyone!

SkiTuscany

:) I'd rather be skiing in Tuscany! :)
